Data Governance – Framework & Pillars

PillarRole/Description
People
People play the vital role on determining the technology requirements, defining the processes, and finally driving the data governance. Questions:

1. Are our people committed to data governance?
2. Have we properly defined their roles and responsibilities?
3. Do they have enough required skills?
4. Is Change Management Plan Deployed?
Processes
Governance processes confirms that data is formally managed across the enterprise, which ensures that critical business processes draw on trusted data. Points to be considered:
1. Data definitions, rules, and goals must be realistic and appropriate.
2. Business processes are modernized, and business rules are reviewed so that they can integrate data governance cleanly and deliver meaningful results.

Contributors

Business Personnel and IT Professionals who provide necessary context, including business leaders, process owners, and stewards who run the upstream and downstream processes impacted by initiative, as well as IT architects, analysts, and systems experts.

Technology

Technology includes the platforms, tools, and subject matter expertise necessary to enable a sound data governance process. Even if existing systems are already governed to some extent, platform technology enablers such as data profiling, lineage, and metadata tools are critical to automate and scale data governance processes and accelerate time to value.
